Therapeutic Effects of Pipemidic Acid in Urinary Tract Infection

Abstract
Pipemidic acid is a new broad spectrum bactericidal agent and especially known to be effective against E. coli, Pseudomonas and Klebsiella.
Authors evaluated the antibacterial activity of pipemidic acid in patients with urinary tract infection and obtained the results as followings.
1. Efficacy rate was 89.5% in acute and chronic UTI patients without underlying diseases and 100% in acute cystitis, acute prostatitis and acute pyelonephritis. In UTI patients with underlying diseases it showed therapeutic effects in 67.7% and excellent effects in 45.1%.
2. Extinct rates of bacteria on culture findings were E. coli, 91.7¡Æ0, Pseudomonas, 80%, Acinetobacter, 80%, Proteus, 60% and Staphylococcus, 57%.
3. Mild adverse reactions such as poor appetite, abdominal fullness and skin rashes during treatment occurred.
Our results indicate that pipemidic acid is one of the most effective agents in urinary tract infection
